Copy Editor/Proofreader - The Curry Coastal Pilot is seeking a part-time copy editor/proofreader for the editorial department. Candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule, 20 to 25 hours, with late evening work on Tuesdays and Fridays. Typing, proofreading, fact-checking, phone and organizational skills a must. Hourly pay depending on experience. The copy editor will work directly with the news staff and be responsible for proofing and editing print and online content, ensuring consistent style, proper grammar and spelling. Duties include rewriting press releases to conform to newspaper style, answering phones and taking routine news items from customers. Other duties include retrieving editorial content from online sources, typing or scanning in letters to the editor, obituaries, birth, anniversary and wedding announcements. This is the perfect job for someone with good writing skills and a command of grammar and spelling. Journalism experience is preferred, but not required.
