from leaving the home… preventing you from going where you want to…
-
Intimidation or
manipulation to control you or your children…
-
Hitting,
punching, slapping, kicking, shoving,
choking or biting you…
-
Throwing or
breaking objects in the home or damaging the home itself during arguments…
-
Following
you when you leave the home…
-
Forcing sexual
intimacy when you don't want to or do things sexually that you don't want to
do
Domestic Violence can be…Emotional
or Verbal
-
Constantly
criticizing you and your abilities as a spouse or partner, parent or
employee…
-
Humiliating or
embarrassing you in front of other people…
-

disapproving of your friends, relatives, neighbors, or co-workers,…
-
Making it hard
for you to find or keep a job or go to school…
-
Getting
suddenly angry or "losing their temper"….
-
Behaving in an
over-protective manner or become extremely jealous…

to hurt you, your children, pets, family members, friends or themselves…

excessive amount of phone messages…
Domestic Violence can be…Financial

access to family assets like bank accounts, credit cards, or the car, or
controlling all finances and forcing you to account for what you spend…

situations or behaviors you experience, you may be a victim of domestic
violence. You are not to blame and you are not alone, millions of women are
abused by their partners every year. Not all acts of domestic violence are
violations of the law. In any case, you need not face domestic violence

Be part of the solution…Reach out…
If a friend, family member or co-worker is being abused,
here are some ways you can help them.
-
Believe them,
and keep what you’re told in confidence.
-
The abused
person is not responsible for being hurt and does not deserve to be abused,
and it is not to be blamed.
-
Each person
needs to tell their story in their own time and place. Take the time to talk
privately with your friend. Ask about suspicious bruises.
-
Be
understanding…Your friend may feel hurt, angry, afraid, ashamed, and
trapped.
-
It is difficult
to leave a home or someone you love, and they might go back several times
before leaving for good. Your friend’s solutions may not be the same as
yours.
-
Help them plan
how to stay safe when violence happens, call Harrington House .
